Local Animal Rights/Welfare/Veg Groups

For a listing of animal shelters in the area, check out the Companion Animals links section.

Angels 4 Animals - mostly for teens and college students but anyone in AZ can join.
Visit http://www.freewebs.com/pvccangels4animals/  for information on the club, events in the valley, tips on caring for animals and going/being vegetarian-vegan, recipes as well as general info on animal rights and welfare.  The main goal of Angels 4 Animals is to get to word out about animal abuse and find ways to help stop it.  They'll also be working on various campaigns in the community such as getting healthy vegetarian/vegan foods at restaurants or tabling against fur/leather.

Animal Defense League of Arizona - ADLA

The Animal Defense League of Arizona is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, unaffiliated with any other organization.  ADLA works to end animal suffering and abuse through education, service, investigation and reform.

Animal Kinship Ministry
Vision:  We love your love of animals.  Purpose: With the expanding awareness of our oneness with all Life, we believe ALL creatures are created to be loved, respected and included in life.  We honor and support the unique human-animal bond in our spiritual community through prayer, education and service.  Kris Haley leads this group.  For more information please email Kris at kris@animalsynergy.com or call (480) 460-1801.

Animal Welfare Association at ASU
We promote respect and justice for animals by educating students, faculty, and staff of ASU about animal cruelty and ways to prevent it, to assist other groups and individuals working to abolish animal cruelty, and to do the above in a nonviolent, open, and respectful manner.  Email: christina.newburg@asu.edu

Animal Rights Meetup Group in the Phoenix area
Promoting local protests & demonstrations that raise awareness of animal suffering.

Animal Rights NOW!
A student and community organization in Flagstaff, Arizona. Their main goal is to educate our community about animal rights and adopting a cruelty free lifestyle (and winning them over with our amazing cup cakes!). They table often, show films, invite guest speakers, hold demonstrations, and throw potlucks.

An advocacy group devoted to improving the lives of animals through public education and outreach.  To subscribe for the Phoenix listserv, send an email to: AZforANIMALS-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.  (Note:  An e-mail message will be sent once you contact AZforANIMALS.  You must reply to that message in order to be confirmed on the list-serve!)

The Humane Society of the United States Meetup Group

Join the Arizona Director of The Humane Society of the United States and meet with other local animal protection advocates to discuss current issues affecting animals.  Meetings are held once a month in different areas of town. Each meeting will provide attendees with legislative updates, news on current events, and ways to take action for the animals. We usually have a presentation with lots of Q&A as well as time to get to know each other.  The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's largest animal protection organization - backed by over 10 million Americans, or one of every 30.  Although not affiliated with any local humane societies, we do work with them on a regular basis.

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control

Our mission is to promote and protect the health, safety, and welfare of pets and people in Maricopa County.  We envision the day when:  Maricopa County citizens, their property, and neighborhoods will be safe from the dangers and nuisances of irresponsible pet guardianship, animals will not suffer due to abuse, neglect, ignorance; and every pet born will be assured of a good home and care during its natural life.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit

This Unit responds to calls all over Maricopa County dealing with everything from complaints of no food and no water, to animals being starved, beaten, tortured, even killed by suspects.  The Unit is on call 24 hours a day. A hotline (602) 256-1681 records complaints after hours. In an emergency, 911 should be called for immediate help.

Raw For Life

Mission Statement:  To inspire, motivate and empower as many people as possible to realize their full potential for peace, harmony and happiness through example and education of the most simple and basic principles and ideals for proper health and nutrition.

Vegetarian Society of Phoenix

As always, our potlucks are open to everyone, regardless of official membership in the Vegetarian Society of Phoenix--so please consider inviting a friend or three to join our scrumptious monthly Sunday potluck! This group is for vegetarians, vegans, raw foodists, and hikers to meet and dine at a different cafe or restaurant each month in the Phoenix Metro Area. Also, this group will organize local hikes in the Phoenix Metro Area and outside of Phoenix as well. Just come and join us and have fun! There is no set agenda for the meetups. It is to make new friends, for people who are like-minded. We talk about things like health, animal welfare and protection, etc. Everyone is at a different level in their vegetarian diets. Also, some members are at different hiking level skills. Some members have been vegetarian for many years, yet others are just starting out. Some members have a vegan diet (strict vegetarian and don't eat any animal products like: dairy, meat, fowl, fish, seafood, honey, etc.). If you are interested in the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, or want to make new veggie friends, come join us. Everybody is welcome!
